23,000 store colleagues get mattress training
Customers should not only sleep, but also have a good night’s sleep, and JYSK wants to be the customers’ first choice when looking for a new mattress. That is why 23,000 store employees in JYSK will get mattress sales training.
Sleep academy
- JYSK Sleep Academy takes place every year in all JYSK countries. In trainings, JYSK’s best sales people will get a deeper product knowledge, and afterwards the participants will train their colleagues in the districts.
- The District Manager selects the candidates, who must be skilled in either duvets or mattresses and ready to receive even more knowledge and share it with colleagues.
“No-one has ever become world champion without lots of practice, and that is the reason JYSK Sleep Academy was invented. To train all store employees in JYSK in sales and service to make sure that customers get the right mattress and the best possible satisfaction,” says Retail Operational Director, Michael Olesen.
Mattresses and other products for sleeping is an area of high strategic focus in JYSK, and these days Sleep Academy takes place in all JYSK countries. Also, in beautiful Switzerland where 10 colleagues were gathered in Egerkingen.
The Swiss landscape is far from the shape of a great mattress. Imagine your head laying on one mountain side and your feet on another, you would probably both get pain in your neck and your back from the awkward position.
Train the trainer
This and a lot of other sleeping knowledge such as pressure on body, temperature regulators and body support are shared and discussed with the selected JYSK employees from Switzerland, who will later on train their colleagues in their districts. One of them is Ramona Wilhelm from the store in Haag, Switzerland.
“It is a big deal to buy a mattress and it is hard for customers to decide in just two minutes. That is why it is important we continue to learn and develop our knowledge about mattresses. The customers will notice if we don’t have the knowledge,” says Ramona.
A puzzle
S50, F30, B20, T65. It almost sounds like airliners, when the mattress supplier and Sales & Marketing Manager in Switzerland, Arben Maloku, present the features of the different mattresses in the assortment. And no mattress is the best one. The best one depends on the customer, body type and sleeping habits and only by asking the customer several questions, the puzzle to find the best suited mattress for each customer can be solved.
“The most important learning for me is the knowledge of additional products. When the customer comes in, it is not only a matter of finding the right mattress, but also for example a mattress protection, which will help the customer to make the mattress last longer,” says another participant, Lucy Belfiglio from the store in Muralta, Switzerland.
Participants will train colleagues
The Sleep Academy consists of two modules with the first part being a two-day training. In all countries, the District Managers select well-performing store colleagues to participate and they will afterwards train their colleagues in the district. This means that all 23,000 store employees in JYSK will have mattress training.
"Mattresses is one of our core products, and we want to be the customers first choice when looking for a new mattress. Therefore, I am very happy that we can continuously train our store colleagues to be able to give a professional and competent service to our customers," says Ruben Faarup Christensen, Purchasing Director, Mattresses.
Now the Sleep Academy participants will go home with a lot of knowledge about mattresses for a good night’s sleep. And just to make clear, the right mattress is not formed like the landscape of Switzerland, but instead formed to support all the different parts of the spine. To secure not only the sleep, but a good night’s sleep.
