There are many advantages in having a Team Leader Trainee programme on the career ladder. Now, after successful testing at Distribution Centre Uldum, JYSK is ready to implement the programme at all Distribution Centres this autumn.
The Team Leader Trainee programme has been successfully tested at Distribution Centre Uldum, and it will be implemented at all JYSK Distribution Centres this autumn.
The programme is inspired by the equivalent Store Manager Trainee programme and is designed to prepare dedicated employees for leadership roles in the future. The focus is on personal development and JYSK management tools.
“We were excited and a bit anxious at the beginning to see whether anyone was interested in becoming trainees at all. But the employees have been very positive around the new initiative. The programme provides the employees with new career options, which means a lot for those who wants to grow within JYSK. In fact, we now have such great success that we can recruit all our leaders internally from the trainee programme,” says Mette Skovbjerg Jensen who is HR Manager at DC Uldum.
Tailored for JYSK Distribution Centres
The Team Leader Trainee programme creates close-knit relationships between colleagues and leaders because the Team Leader Trainees are trained in actual situations around the colleagues they work with daily.
“We saw the advantages of training existing employees for future leadership roles where they are trained by their own Team Leader in real-life situations. Then the employees can expect to have a leader who is JYSK educated, possesses the right leadership tools, has an eye for the JYSK Values, and knows their everyday routines, challenges, and successes. I think that this is useful for all Distributions Centres at JYSK,” Mette explains.
An opportunity to grow
Anusan Satgunorasa was one of the first employees to complete the Team Leader Trainee programme. Today, he is Team Leader at Distribution Centre Uldum.
“When the opportunity opened, I never doubted if I should take the chance and become a Team Leader Trainee. It provided me with the opportunity to develop myself and my leadership skills. I am proud to represent JYSK and happy that all DC employees get the opportunity to grow as I did,” Anusan says.
Team Leader Trainee Programme
- It takes 1.5 years to complete the programme
- Around 12 employees participate in the programme at a time
- So far, one round of the programme has been completed at DCU
- Nine of the employees are now in a Team Leader role, and one is in a specialist role
If the employees are not promoted straight away, they will continue in their current job position until a leadership role opens.
