Bed linen, sheets, pillowcases and now ready-made curtains. JYSK is working strategically on reducing the use of plastic on packaging. During the last couple of years, a change from plastic packaging to a cardboard bellyband has reduced the use of plastic remarkably on different product groups, and now the next category is also joining the cardboard wave.

By changing the packaging from plastic to cardboard on ready-made curtains, JYSK will save around 78 tonnes of plastic every year. The improvement has already been introduced on all subgroups in all JYSK stores around the world (except string curtains).

“The primary reason for this change is to reduce our use of plastic, and 78 tonnes are quite significant. With the new packaging, you also see the colours of the products more clearly, which attracts more attention. The feedback from our colleagues in the stores is that it looks nice and gives a more consistent impression along with the bellyband on other product groups,” says Lene Østerberg, Category Buyer Window Dressing.

The plastic packaging will still be seen for a period, until all products with the old packaging are sold. JYSK is currently also looking into optimising the packaging for blinds.
