JYSK apprentices conquer Berlin

In Mid-June, JYSK apprentices in Germany packed their bags and went to Berlin. A special project awaited the talents of tomorrow here.

95 apprentices. 12 stores. One city: That was JYSK Germany's 2023 trainee project, which took place in the capital of Berlin. Here, the talents from all over the country participated in an exciting challenge: they took over 12 JYSK stores in the metropolis with four million inhabitants for three days.

New challenges and contacts

Happy to be part of the project: a group of apprentices from south-western Germany.

Ordering goods, providing advice and, above all, selling products – not so easy when suddenly both the store and the team are completely new. No problem for the apprentices.

“I like taking on new challenges. It is great to just get out of your own little world and try something new. Because that is the only way you can develop further," explains Wiebke, who normally completes her apprenticeship in the JYSK store in Osterholz-Scharmbeck.

With this, Leon can only agree. The 18-year-old from the store in Schortens, not far from the North Sea, sees another big advantage.

“The project allows us to meet new people. I always like to do that. This also creates good contacts."
 

Kick off with TikTok

Already at the kickoff event, the talents were allowed to get creative and shoot a TikTok video in their teams.

They were actively supported by guest speaker and famous TikTok influencer André Braun.

"We wanted to offer the trainees something extraordinary right from the start and show that this week will be unforgettable for them," says Franziska Bayer, Project Manager and HR Manager South Germany.

In addition to the work in the stores, there were exciting and fun competitions on the agenda where teamwork was required.

… attracts the most Home Delivery orders?

... just to name a few challenges. The winners were celebrated at the big closing party. This took place in a beach club in the city centre. In addition to the award ceremonies, people also had dinner and went dancing.

The project ended with a big beach party.

“We are extremely satisfied. It is nice to see that the project has been so well received by the apprentices," says Franziska and continues:

"We wanted to thank our apprentices with the Berlin adventure and show that we believe in them and their skills. Because we are certain: only apprentices who feel heard, seen and valued by the company are happy.”

This is the only way they can get the best out of themselves and their teams every day, stay with JYSK in the long term and attract new customers.

“Perhaps the project could inspire other JYSK countries that also have apprentices. The days here in Berlin have clearly shown something: Apprentices and young colleagues in general want to get involved with JYSK, contribute with their ideas and develop the company in this way – no matter if they are in Germany, Denmark or Spain. And that makes us proud.”
