Everything from maritime ropes and water bottles to textiles and wood get new life in JYSK’s products. Focusing on recycled materials is part of our sustainability strategy.

It may not be very visible, but when you walk around your JYSK store, you will occasionally pass a product made from recycled materials. And the number is rapidly increasing.

"The number of products that are fully or partly made from recycled materials is increasing on a weekly basis," says Rikke Blæsild, Range & Design Manager.

The products are introduced in stores on a regular basis with the launch of new products. One of the latest examples is the Nordic Bath

Wood from house is recycled

Another example is found among our garden furniture, where Indonesian teak from a demolished house, an old barn and traditional farmer rice boxes have been recycled for JYSK's garden furniture. This summer, the garden table EBBESKOV will be one of our new products made from recycled teak.

The teak is FSC® Recycled-certified (FSC® N001715), which means that the wood has been verified as being actually recycled. Recycling wood contributes to protecting the world's forests because it eases the pressure on the demand for new wood.

Recycling is the future

At JYSK, we are working to reduce our impact on the environment and climate. Recycling materials instead of disposing them helps reduce the strain on the planet’s resources.

"Why not recycle some of what is already out there?" asks Rikke, who in her work with developing JYSK's range has a strong focus on increasing the number of products made from recycled materials.

“When we are looking for product news and new supplier collaborations, this is certainly something we ask for. Recycled materials are a trend we will see even more of in the future,” she says.

At the same time, Rikke emphasises that it is an ongoing process and that there is still a lot of work ahead.

"There are many good forces at work. We have come a long way in relation to our textiles, where we have more products that are made from recycled polyester, for example. One of our focus areas right now is to increase the number of duvets and pillows, where the fibre filling is made from recycled materials.”

JYSK as a company has a size that enables us to support a positive change by increasing the demand for products made from recycled materials.
