In addition to working as Senior AI Platform Engineer at JYSK, Florencio Paucar Sedano is studying online at Stanford University to stay on top of the latest AI innovations and bringing insights directly into his work at JYSK.
Artificial Intelligence is becoming an integrated part of daily workflows at JYSK. To keep advancing, JYSK is investing in education and supporting colleagues who are dedicated to learning the latest within AI.
As a member of our AI team, Florencio Paucar Sedano, Senior Platform Engineer in AI & ML Ops, is an expert in solving complex problems using AI. Since joining JYSK’s Head Office in Denmark in October 2024, he has made significant steps in supporting and scaling the platform that powers our AI applications.
“Since the early 2020s, breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and the explosion of generative AI have sparked a wave of innovation that is rapidly transforming our problem-solving methods and profoundly impacting our daily lives,” says Florencio.
Studying AI at Stanford
Originally from Peru, Florencio brings over nine years of experience working with AI applications across countries such as Italy, Finland and Denmark. His interest in technology sparked at a young age, and the fast-moving pace of AI motivates him to continue learning.
Driven by his own initiative, Florencio has been accepted to study the Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence at Stanford University – one of the world’s leading courses in the field.
“The course provides a strong theoretical foundation in AI and state-of-the-art knowledge, and I get to learn from some of the most renowned professors in the field,” says Florencio.
The course is not only a way to grow professionally – it also brings valuable knowledge to JYSK, and Florencio has received full support from his manager, Michael Sørensen, Head of SAP Technology.
“Things are evolving so fast in AI, and by having first-hand access to the latest knowledge, we can apply it to JYSK much sooner. Florencio lives by the values, don’t lie, don’t steal, and don’t be lazy, inspired by the ancient Inca motto, which he applies especially to learning,” says Michael.
Real-life applications at JYSK
Two times a week, Florencio attends online classes at Stanford University while continuing his work at JYSK Head Office. Here he helps developers build smarter solutions for our colleagues and improve the customer experience.
“My main motivation is making an impact for our customers. Most of all, I love making workflows easier for my colleagues,” says Florencio.
As part of the Stanford course, Florencio is conducting a case study on the development of retrieval-augmented querying models based on knowledge graphs, designed to enhance understanding and reasoning over diverse data sources.
“For example, if a customer asks for a JYSK product that is similar to a specific chair in our assortment, the AI model can fetch this information, making it easy for the customer to get a full overview of our products,” Florencio explains.
In December, Florencio will submit the first of four articles. The first article will be published on the Stanford CS224W Medium platform (https://medium.com/stanford-cs224w) as well as on JYSK Tech. The remaining three will be shared with his Stanford degree program, with potential submission to academic conferences.
