A group of students from Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences had the opportunity on 31 October to present their visions for the future of retail to JYSK’s top management.

For the fifth time, JYSK invited a group of students to the JYSK headquarters as part of the yearly Master Case Challenge. One group was given an entire afternoon at JYSK’s headquarters including a tour and the full attention of JYSK’s top management during their presentation.

The group, comprised of Victoria Bruun Lisberg, Marcell Gozon, Emilios Petridis, and Mathias Vestergaard Mikkelsen, presented their proposal on how JYSK could incorporate more artificial intelligence in the business, allowing customers to visualise their homes with JYSK furniture from the comfort of their own couches.

Sales Director at JYSK, Jimmi Knudsgård Jakobsen, was highly pleased with the group’s presentation and their collaboration, underlining the importance of the tradition that the Master Case Challenge has become for JYSK.

"Through the Master Case Challenge, we get a fantastic opportunity to engage with a lot of students and explain what JYSK is today. Another aspect is to get their perspective on what it truly takes from us to attract them as employees or customers. They are committed to making the best presentation possible, while JYSK gets to mingle and have great conversations with the students," says Jimmi.

Master Case Challenge 2024

  • This year marked the fifth year that JYSK participated in the Master Case - a project for graduate students at Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences during their introductory week.

  • JYSK joined as one of several companies in the Master Case, asking students the question: “What is the future of retail?”

  • Three winning groups were selected by a jury of six JYSK employees from Sales & Expansion, Marketing, E-commerce, and HR.

A rewarding experience for both parties

For the students, it was a valuable learning experience to work on a concrete case.

"JYSK is a very interesting case for us to work on, as they are a large retail company, and we currently see many challenges for the retail sector in general," says Victoria.

Mathias adds how rewarding it was to work on something as practical as this case:

"It is very useful, as we do not do many case assignments. We have guest lectures where we hear a lot about different companies, but we do not work closely with them like we have done here," says Mathias.

The other group members agree while noting that JYSK is an attractive place for them to seek internships in the future. The close collaboration with JYSK over the past few months has opened their eyes to everything JYSK has to offer as a company.

"Many people still think of JYSK, as it was 30 years ago, so being able to show them where we are today, and what we have become is really important. We meet many young people, when we present JYSK, who are genuinely surprised to learn how much JYSK encompasses as a company. Allowing the winning groups to visit here each year has only resulted in an even better impression of JYSK," concludes Jimmi.
