Less time spent on cleaning, means more time for the customer. That is the reality of the JYSK stores, which have replaced the carpet with wooden floors.

More and more JYSK stores replace the carpet with wooden floors – either as a part of implementing the new store concept 3.0 or as an upgrade of existing store concept 2.0. Today about 280 stores have wooden floors, and many more will come. Besides almost all city stores have wooden floors.

The light, Scandinavian expression of the new store concept 3.0 has been well received by both customers and JYSK colleagues and in time, the concept will be rolled out to all stores. But the new concept also sets new requirements for cleaning, and therefore new equipment is needed.

“The new stylish store concept makes the store very presentable, and this sets a high standard – also when it comes to cleaning the store,” says Mads Skovgaard, who is Store Manager Trainee in Viby in Denmark.

The Viby store was one of the first stores to get the new store concept 3.0 in the summer of 2018. Since then the team has tested new cleaning equipment: A dry mop, a floor cleaning machine and a vacuum cleaner.

Effective and a nice result

The new cleaning equipment has been well received in Viby.

”The head of the dry mop fits the width of the aisle, which makes it fast and efficient. The mop catches dust and dirt without the use of water," says Mads, as he shows how to quickly get around the store.

The vacuum cleaner is Mads' favourite: "The new vacuum cleaner is far better than the one we had before. It is much easier to manoeuvre, and swivel castor make it easy to pull around the store. Also the function for redrawing the cord is better and the vacuum is quieter, which is a big advantage if there are customers in the store," he says.

Cleaning the floor is a bit more time-consuming, but it is only necessary about once a week.

"We have received a new machine for cleaning the floor. Once you have learned the many features, it is easy to handle and the result is very nice."

More time for the customer

Although cleaning the floor takes time, in general the store spends less time cleaning than before the implementation of store concept 3.0.

"The fact that we save time on cleaning, gives us more time for the customers, which is the most important thing. At the same time, I think the cleaning results are better – the store looks really nice," says Mads.
