During April 2020, JYSK will begin building a new distribution centre in Ecser, Hungary. When in operation, the distribution centre will employ around 300 people and further strengthen the company’s logistics setup in Europe.

A number of blue containers have already been placed close to the roundabout in Ecser near Budapest, where JYSK’s new distribution centre will be built. And soon large excavators will start digging up the 560,000 square-metre plot.

JYSK is expanding the company’s logistics setup to be better able to deliver faster to customers in a number of countries in Central Europe.

“Although the coronavirus situation has a big impact on JYSK, it is still important for us to invest in the future. Once everyday life returns, people will still need beds, duvets and pillows as well as other necessities for their home. In order to provide that, we need a strong logistics setup, which our new distribution centre in Ecser, Hungary, will help secure,” says Allan K. Kjærgaard, Executive Vice President Logistics in JYSK.

Closer to customers and stores

The buildings of the new distribution centre – which will include two highbays, docks for loading and unloading trucks and office space for administration – will take up 143,000 square metres. The highbays will provide 210,000 pallet locations for products.

“With the expansion of our new distribution centre in Ecser, Hungary, we will be able to deliver products much faster and more efficiently directly to our customers and to our hundreds of stores. In fact, we expect to save 4.5 million kilometres of road transport every year, which is good for both the environment and our ability to provide great offers to our customers,” says Allan K. Kjærgaard.

The new distribution centre is expected to be ready for operations in mid-2022. Once up and running, the distribution centre will provide products for JYSK’s customers and stores in Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia.
