In week 12, FSC® brings together companies and organisations across interests and industries for a common focus on the environment and climate. JYSK takes part.

The environment and climate changes are topics that many people care about. And with good reason. It is necessary to create positive change for our planet, so that future generations can also benefit from nature's resources and a diverse animal and plant life. Preserving the world's forests play a major role, as forests for example absorb CO2 and provide habitats for many plant and animal species.

"We can't solve the environmental and climate challenges alone. That is why cooperation and partnerships are key."
- Rune Jungberg Pedersen, Communications & CSR Director

In week 12, JYSK puts extra focus on our work with FSC and sustainable wood to remind our customers why it is important to choose FSC-certified wood. We do this as part of our participation in the FSC Week 2021.

“As a large, international company, JYSK has the responsibility to make the right choices. But we can’t solve the environmental and climate challenges alone. That is why cooperation and partnerships are key. The FSC Week is an example of a joint effort with a strong message, which we are happy to contribute to,” says Rune Jungberg Pedersen, Communications and CSR Director.

the Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals consist of 17 goals for a more sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goals are for everyone; both governments, businesses, the public sector and consumers. They were introduced in 2016 and are valid until 2030.

JYSK also works with The Sustainable Development Goals and has selected five out of the 17 goals, which we focus on in particular.

FSC Denmark is the NGO organising the FSC Week. This year, the FSC Week is dedicated to the UN's Sustainable Development Goal number 17, which focuses on exactly partnerships and joint efforts for a more sustainable development.

In the FSC Week, companies and NGOs work together to raise awareness about sustainable wood and the world’s forests. The result is great exposure to the strong message across many platforms and industries.

Agelong focus on wood

Wood is an important raw material in JYSK, and since the 1990’s we have focused on sustainable wood.

“For several years, all wooden garden furniture has been FSC-certified. In the autumn of 2020, we could officially announce that by the end of 2024, all JYSK's products and packaging consisting of wood or paper will be FSC-certified,” says Rune.

An important milestone that JYSK has just passed is the optimisation of the packaging on bed linen and sheets, where plastic is replaced with FSC-certified cardboard (FSC® N001715).

FSC Week 2021

What is FSC?

FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council® and is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide, securing that the world's forests will also be full of life for future generations.

JYSK was one of the very first members when FSC established its Danish branch in 2006.

The FSC label is found on paper and wood and means that the wood comes from sustainable forests and other responsible sources.
