New and modern distribution centre is now operating in Spain

From now on goods to JYSK stores in Spain and Portugal are delivered from Cheste instead of Valencia. The new distribution centre is more modern and offers more space than the old one in Valencia. 

When the trucks have to pick up goods from JYSK’s distribution centre in Spain, they now have to adjust their GPS by 25 kilometres. DC Valencia has been relaunched as DC Cheste in bright new facilities and moved 25 kilometres outside of Valencia.

The opening should have been celebrated on 1 September 2020, but the corona situation did not allow for that. However, all staff are now working in Cheste, and the first pallet has left the site. The place is up and running.

“We wanted a bigger distribution centre, and the old one was placed in old buildings in different levels. Now we have a big nice warehouse that is ready for future expansion,” says Allan K. Kjærgaard, Executive Vice President Logistics at JYSK.

Ready for future expansion

The new distribution centre is different to the other JYSK distribution centres, as the employees manually have to pick goods and prepare them for delivery, while the others are all automated and the shelves up to 40 metres tall.

“A distribution centre is a huge investment and with only 60-70 stores in Spain and Portugal so far, it doesn’t make sense to invest in a huge automated system yet. But we have the possibility to expand the distribution centre later if needed,” says Allan K. Kjærgaard.

The keys for the new distribution center were handed over on 1 July 2020, and since then all activities have been moved to Cheste step by step. Now there is only the final closing of the old distribution centre in Valencia left on the task list.
