Together with the other judges, Rikke Blæsild investigates and evaluates each design in the competition. Here, the judges are presented to the design Arabesk.

JYSK was a partner at FSC Design Award, which was held on 20-21 November in Copenhagen. Rikke Blæsild, Range & Design Manager in JYSK, participated and was impressed with the many designs.

Once again, this year JYSK supported FSC Design Award, which is a competition for Danish design and architecture students that focuses on sustainability in the production of design. JYSK was represented in the panel of judges by Rikke Blæsild, who is Range & Design Manager in JYSK.

“I think the young designers solved the task of combining sustainability and design very well. Everyone in the competition had incorporated sustainability in their designs in one way or another. For example, in the selection of materials and optimisation in relation to packaging and shipping of the product,” says Rikke.

Besides sustainability, innovation was one of the keywords among the designs, according to Rikke, who has a background as product developer herself.

“I was especially impressed with the designers who had worked with new technical solutions in the development of their design and who had thought of several functionalities in their design,” says Rikke.

And the winner is…

In total, 45 designs participated in the competition and every design was carefully evaluated and tested by the judges before the winner was found.

10 selected finalists were called on stage before Morten Schnedler Jørgensen was announced as the winner of FSC Design Award 2019 with his design Arabesk.

”It means a lot to me to win and is it amazing to get the recognition from the judges. They are experts within the field, so they really know what they are talking about,” says Morten.

Arabesk is a multifunctional piece of furniture. It is stackable and can be used both as a stool, a table and for storage.

A trip to Vietnam

The main prize is a trip to Vietnam in cooperation with ScanCom, which is a part of Lars Larsen Group together with JYSK. During the trip, Morten will get the chance to work with a prototype of his design.

“I look very much forward to the trip. I think it is great that the prize is closely related to the product. It is very valuable to me that I get to further develop my design,” says Morten.
