As of 1 January 2022, all electricity used directly by JYSK will be from renewable sources.

When customers visit JYSK from 1 January 2022 and beyond, they can rest assured that the electricity used for lighting, heating electrical appliances and everything else will support renewable sources.

This is the result of a new contract made by JYSK to buy guarantees of origin for all electricity used directly by JYSK in stores, offices and distribution centres.

“With this initiative, we are able to significantly reduce our scope 2 emissions on short notice, as we buy green energy certificates equal to the total consumption of electricity across all JYSK countries,” explains Communications & CSR Director at JYSK, Rune Jungberg Pedersen.

First step

The green energy for which JYSK now buys guarantees of origin comes from already existing solar, wind and hydro facilities, and thus does not necessarily add additional green energy to the market, but according to Rune Jungberg Pedersen, it is still an important step.

“By paying an extra fee to ensure that JYSK is powered by renewable energy sources, we make it more attractive to establish new facilities producing renewable energy. Furthermore, it is important to underline that this should also be seen in relation to other initiatives taken by JYSK and Lars Larsen Group, which includes investments of more than 1 billion DKK in renewable energy and power-to-X technology,” he explains.
