DESIGN, QUALITY AND CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY

The award ceremony took place in Sofia in December. Radina Mihaylova, HR Business Partner JYSK Bulgaria, was present at the ceremony and received the trophy. She thought the ceremony was inspiring and was proud the JYSK was named winner in the category.

"This award is a recognition of the work we did at the Distribution center in Bozhurishte, the most modern logistic center in Bulgaria. We trust that JYSK’s logistic facility was the first step into making Bozhurishte a more modern area and that more companies will invest here”, said Radina on stage.

Three main criteria were taken into consideration by the jury and, of course, the DCB building scored very well in all three aspects.  First, the jury analized the investment characteristics of the building and how it contributes to the society and the urban environment. Second, the architecture, design and functionality of the building were evaluated. And last, but not least, the quality of the construction, the energy consumption of the building, share of renewable sources and technological indicators were asessed.

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS AND JYSK’S REQUIREMENTS

Georgi Popchev, Technical Manager DCB and project manager in the construction process of Bozhurishte Distribution Center, remembers that they were aiming for high quality at all stages, so they did not satisfy with less.

“During the entire project we had to make sure all our suppliers and all participants in the construction process were strictly following the requirements. We also insisted on timely execution and very minor delays were accepted. This is strictly connected with the expectations towards DCB from the JYSK countries and the management as we could not afford to delay the delivery plans for the countries in our scope. It was also crucial to ensure that the principles of cost-consciousness were followed. Therefore, money was spent when it was needed and good for JYSK and not because there was an available budget”, says Georgi.

DCB in numbers

  • The total size of DCB is 95 000 m2.
  • The total storage capacity is nearly 125 000 pallets.
  • The total size of the plot is 303.000 m2.
  • The high bays measures are 166 metres length, 55 metres width and 42.5 metres hight.
  • The total investment in the construction was 107 million euro.
  • When fully operational, DCB will create more than 300 jobs.
  • It will service more than 300 JYSK stores in Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Greece and other countries.

DCB ADVANTAGES

Jaroslaw Sobczyk, Logistic Manager DCB, thinks that what made JYSK’s distribution center stand out from all the other entries in the contest was the automation part.

“JYSK DCB is the first of its kind in Bulgaria – the biggest and the most modern logistic facility. The impressive dimensions and technology of the building definitely make it stand out from all other logistic facilities in the country. The highlight of our new logistic center are the two fully automated high bays for goods storage which operate without any human input. The concept of our building and the focus on combination between size and technology make it so unique for the country”, said Jaroslaw Sobczyk.

Georgi Popchev agrees, adding that Bozhurishte distribution center is not only the biggest automated warehouse in Bulgaria, but also from the Balkan region.

“Actually, there were not serious competitors in the Logistic category. All other participants were “traditional” logistic centers where the focus was on building size (to have the building as big as possible, thus, to have greater space and more cubic meters for storing). In JYSK case the focus is on automation and the building part just supports the process. That is another reason why JYSK project is unique in Bulgaria”, Georgi explains.
