Across the 52 countries where JYSK operates stores, employees observed one minute of silence on the day of Lars Larsen’s funeral service.

On Monday 19 August 2019, JYSK founder Lars Larsen passed away. Three days later, on Thursday 22 August 2019, his funeral service was held in the local church, close to his home.

Outside the church in the city of Sejs-Svejbæk, where Lars Larsen lived for many years with his wife, around 40 JYSK employees lined the driveway where the hearse was parked. In their hands they held some of the 600 blue roses, which had been donated by many JYSK employees.

As Lars Larsen’s two children and four grandchildren carried the casket to the hearse, several employees placed blue roses on the casket, and then the hearse slowly drove away.

Earlier in the day, at 12 noon Danish time, employees across 52 JYSK countries and all of the companies within Lars Larsen Group paid their final respects by observing one minute of silence in his honour.

Thank you from the family

All of the tributes mean a lot to Lars Larsen’s family, says Jacob Brunsborg, who became Chairman of the Board in Lars Larsen Group after his father withdrew from the position in June.

“We have experienced a lot of support from JYSK employees, and we would like to thank all of you for having honoured his memory, whether it was with a minute of silence during your work day or donating blue roses. It was a beautiful gesture, which meant a lot on a sad day. We would also like to thank everyone for all of the greetings, flowers and donations to the Danish Cancer Society, which we have received from JYSK employees in all countries.”

The family has decided to double the amount donated to the Danish Cancer Society, which had reached more than 500,000 DKK on Monday 27 August. This means that the organisation will receive at least 1 million DKK to aid their work.
