JYSK memories: First ad, Parasport, and ‘My blue bag’

On 1 April 1979, the same day as the first JYSK store opened in Denmark, the first advertisement for JYSK Sengetøjslager was published in the local Danish newspaper. The advertisement showcased the first of many of Lars Larsen’s great offers.

In 1989, JYSK became the main sponsor for Parasport Denmark. Over the past decades, JYSK has also become the main sponsor of parasports associations in Finland, Norway, and Romania, while also supporting the national paralympic committees in several other countries where JYSK is present.

Around 25 years have passed since JYSK introduced the reusable shopping bags ‘My Blue Bag’. These bags are made of 100% recycled plastic and designed to encourage more customers not only to buy them, but also to reuse them for various purposes beyond carrying their JYSK purchases.

On 8 March 2019, JYSK opened an expanded JYSK Museum at the Head Office in Brabrand, Denmark. The museum serves as a captivating chronicle of the rich history of JYSK, from the first store opening to the famous TV commercials as well as memorable moments from other business adventures. In 2023, the museum was once again expanded to include different store concepts and Lars Larsen’s original office.
