After a pause in the process due to increased prices on raw materials and services, JYSK will resume the project with the aim of opening a new, state-of-the-art distribution centre in Lelystad in the Netherlands.

In March 2022, JYSK decided to postpone the construction process of the retail chain’s newest distribution centre in Lelystad in the Netherlands. The reason was increased prices on raw materials and services as a result of the war in Ukraine.

Now, JYSK is ready to start up the process again to get the construction underway.

“JYSK’s needs for an expanded distribution network have not changed since we paused the process. Now we are ready to restart the project with a resized distribution centre that will better match our future needs. We are still a growing company, and we have no plans to pause our expansion, so our logistics setup of course must grow as well,” says Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President Logistics.

New tender process

The original plans for the new distribution centre were made before the pandemic, so some adjustments will be made within the distribution centre to fit with JYSK’s reality today and in the future.

“Although JYSK’s continued expansion plans have not changed, requirements for successful, fast and efficient logistics have indeed been altered to match our customers’ existing and future needs and shopping behaviour. For that reason, we will also conduct a new tender process to make sure we have the best solution and the best partners for JYSK and our customers,” says Ole Thomsen.

The temporary distribution centre, placed right next to the building site, received the first container filled with JYSK products in November 2022. It will continue with its activities as planned, and the first products are expected to be delivered to stores in the Netherlands and Belgium in the beginning of March 2023.
