Bed for museum
The signature bed CARL ERIK from 1985 is now in JYSK Museum.

Our company history is now 43 years long, and our museum has received yet another great historical addition.

On 2 April 2022, JYSK is turning 43. That means 43 years of history since our founder Lars Larsen opened the first store on Silkeborgvej in Aarhus in 1979. The opening started a remarkable growth journey to now more than 3,100 stores in 50 countries.

And when you should look back at a 43-year long history, what is better than to take a look in a museum?

JYSK’s own museum will soon be enlarged. The museum already has a lot of history and items from the last 43 years, and in addition, there will be a replica of Lars Larsen’s old office and a part where you walk through our store concepts through time. The Carl Erik bed will be in the last part.

In an upcoming expansion of JYSK Museum at the Head Office in Denmark, you will soon find a bed that is almost as old as the company.

In June 1985, a Danish customer called Bettina Karlsen bought a Carl Erik bed, and the bed has secured her good nights of sleep for almost 37 years. However, she accepted to give away her bed to JYSK Museum, when JYSK posted on Facebook that we were looking for one of our original models.

”It was amazing and heartwarming to find one of our very old models - and then even one named after me. The bed will get a really good place in our museum and, like the rest of the museum, will help tell about JYSK's history over the years,” says Carl Erik Stubkier, responsible for JYSK Museum.

Carl Erik interview

On Monday 7 March 2022, Carl Erik and two JYSK colleagues started the car with a trailer to pick up the bed. A regional TV station in Denmark also showed up, as the bed was picked up. They wanted to tell the story about the bed from 1985 going into a museum.

In return, Bettina Karlsen got a gift card of DKK 5,000 to buy a new bed, and she has already bought a new adjustable bed from JYSK.
