On 6 August 1948, Lars Larsen was born in Arnborg in the western part of Jutland, Denmark. He was the youngest of four siblings, who was raised by their mother. His father passed away a few months before Lars Larsen was born.

Silkeborgvej 1979 — Lars Larsen opens the very first JYSK store under the name JYSK SENGETØJSLAGER in Aarhus, Denmark.

In 1987, JYSK’s founder, Lars Larsen, is among the first in Denmark to use TV commercials when he appears on regional TV channel ‘TV South’ with the words “Hello. My name is Lars Larsen, and I have a great offer for you”.

A year after the successful regional advertisements, Lars Larsen can be seen in nationwide TV commercials on the channel TV 2. He is among the very first Danish business owners to use himself and his profile in a commercial way.

Lars Larsen royal — In 2017, Lars Larsen is decorated as Knight 1st Class of the Order of Dannebrog by Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark.

For several years, JYSK has also been permitted to use the designation By Appointment to The Royal Danish Court, a title only granted to companies or individuals who have supplied The Royal Danish Court for several years, are well-established, financially sound and have an excellent reputation.
