JYSK becomes main sponsor of Romanian para-athletes
JYSK and disabled athletics
- JYSK has sponsored the Danish Sports Organisation for the Disabled since 1989.
- In 2002, JYSK also became the main sponsor of disabled athletics in Norway, followed by Sweden in 2004
- JYSK also sponsors disabled athletics in Finland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, while JYSK Franchise sponsors organisations in Canada, Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
JYSK expands its sponsorship for disabled athletes in a new country after signing a three-year contract with the Romanian National Paralympic Committee.
Another step has been taken in JYSK’s long-lasting tradition of supporting disabled athletes.
In Romania, JYSK is now the main sponsor of the Paralympics and will offer financial support for the training of Romanian Paralympic athletes who compete in fourteen sports.
”Our company has supported disabled athletes for almost 30 years. We wanted to continue this tradition that started in Denmark back in 1989 because we think that these athletes deserve to be admired for their will and strength. Despite all the impediments they had in life, they manage to outdo themselves and accomplish great results. They are an example for all of us, and they deserve our support,” says Alex Bratu, Country Manager for JYSK Romania and Bulgaria.
Athletics, wheelcair basketball, table tennis, archery, judo, swimming and canoeing are among the Paralympic sports that will benefit from the sponsorship.
Attracting young athletes
The President of the Romanian National Paralympic Committee (NPC), Sally Wood-Lamont, is delighted to announce the new sponsorship agreement, which signals a new level of sports sponsorship.
“JYSK is well known in Europe and Canada for its support of Paralympic athletes, and it is due to our increasing excellent results in our 14 Paralympic sports and our commitment to attracting young disabled athletes to Paralympic sport that we have been able to finalise this sponsorship deal,” says Sally Wood-Lamont.
Over the next few months, nine major para-sport competitions will take place: European Championships in Blind Judo; European Championships in Blind Football; Goalball European Championships; World Championships Para-Archery; European Swimming Championships for Down Syndrome; and the European Championship Paralympic Youth Games where 20 Romanian athletes will participate in five para-sports. This is the largest youth Paralympic team ever to represent Romania.
“We thank JYSK for their confidence in us and for their fantastic support, and we shall work together to offer the best conditions and resources possible for our young athletes,” says Sally Wood-Lamont.
Great results in London
In July, five Romanian Paralympic athletes participated at the World Championships in Para Athletics in London.
On the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in London, the Romanian Paralympic athletes accomplished very good results.
“We wish the athletes the best of luck in their next challenges,” says Alex Bratu.
