To celebrate JYSK’s 46th birthday, on 2 April 2025, we are traveling back in time. With help from some of our trainees in Denmark, we have recreated some of the classic JYSK looks.

Always practical
It has been our focus right from day one to be all about functionality. That is why you will never see white shirts in our stores, as whites simply are not practical for a hands-on retail environment. But function does not need to be boring.

The New Look 2 – 1997-1998
The '90s were all about colour, pattern, and energy - most prominently expressed in the form of large, chequered shirts with a distinct blue undertone. Paired with a pullover with large horizontal stripes, this was eye-catching and quintessentially JYSK.

The Sporty Sweat 2 – 1999
Created for our 20th birthday, this casual sweatshirt style characterised JYSK's subtle self-confidence. Beneath the crew neck? A denim shirt, of course. There is no cooler casual than denim - especially in retail.

Designed with purpose
In the '90s, we even partnered with the clothing company Back Tee to produce shirts and sweaters that were not only fashionable but fit the job requirements as well. Today, the mission remains the same: using clothes that embody our values and team spirit.

The Modern Look – 2004
Following Y2K, JYSK uniforms took on a cleaner and more refined look. Chequered patterns grew smaller and were paired with black V-neck jumpers. Sleek and convenient, this look was influenced by Germany, where our sister company Dänisches Bettenlager used more formal attire - complete with ties and scarves.

The Uniform – 2007
Orange is the new JYSK. In the late 2000s, the colour popped up on our sleeves, creating a dramatic contrast to our traditional blue. No one quite remembers how it came about, but it soon became synonymous with JYSK stores during the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Listening to our team
We have received a lot of employee input on our uniforms. Is it too hot? Is it too cold? Is it too thick? We have always remained open to adjusting based on feedback from our stores.

The New Beginning – 2018
After all the tests with patterns and colours, we returned to basics with a clean and dark blue polo. No unnecessary frills - just a classic, modern look that checks all the boxes: practical, comfortable, and distinctly JYSK. It has been the standard since 2018 and is still going strong today.
