Once again, JYSK is supporting the FSC Week, with the purpose of bringing focus to FSC® and sustainable forestry.
In week 12, JYSK is celebrating the FSC Week in Denmark. Together with a number of other Danish companies, organisations and NGOs, JYSK is putting extra focus on FSC and the importance of protecting the world's forests.
FSC is short for Forest Stewardship Council®. FSC is an international non-profit organisation and labelling system for wood and paper, which originates from sustainable forests.
The FSC label is found on several of JYSK's wooden products, and increasing the amount of FSC-certified products in our assortment is a strategic focus area. Today, all our wooden garden furniture is made of FSC wood (FSC® N001715).
Long-term partnership
In addition to having FSC-certified products in our assortment, JYSK is a member of FSC's Danish branch. JYSK has been a member since 2006 and was among the very first members of FSC Denmark.
One of the reasons JYSK joined FSC Denmark at that time was our desire to actively contribute to raising awareness of FSC and sustainable forestry among consumers - and today we still contribute to this cause.
A lot has happened in the last 12 years, but there is still a need to put sustainable forestry on the agenda. Therefore, it is natural for us to support an initiative like the FSC Week.
Protecting nature, animals and humans
Today, many know FSC and that the label means that the wood comes from sustainable forestry, where no more trees are felled than the forest can naturally replace – and at the same time taking animal and plant life into account. But FSC is about even more. Did you know that FSC works with both environmental, social and economic responsibility?
Among other things, this means that the indigenous population’s traditional rights to use the forest are respected and areas of cultural or religious meaning are mapped and protected. The FSC label also means that the people who work in the forests are provided with training and safety equipment – and that they are secured decent working conditions, fair wages and the right to organise in trade unions.
So, the next time one of our customers decides to buy an FSC certified product, remember to let them know that they are making a difference for nature, animals and humans.
